"As soon as you walk in and see how beautiful the architecture is, how beautiful the personalities of the women are, and how welcoming they are, everything just melts away immediately."
These words capture the essence of the Metropolitan Club. It represents over a century of women from all walks of life building a community together.
For Noni Weigand, what started as a wine dinner invitation would become the beginning of something transformational. Through a referral from a friend, Noni found herself stepping into what she now describes as "such a hidden gem." That first evening, surrounded by women of all ages and backgrounds sharing their stories, Noni experienced what has drawn generations of women to the Metropolitan Club.
"The amount of welcoming faces sitting at a table–I was just a guest, but everyone would come up and ask about your story," Noni recalls of that first evening. "There were no awkward silences, and the food was amazing. I really fell in love with that energy in the room."
Having grown up close to her grandmother, Noni was naturally drawn to the Metropolitan Club's multigenerational environment. Rather than seeing age differences as a barrier, she found them enriching.
"Some of my closest friends, we have age gaps and it's no big deal," she shares. "You can still talk about what you like to do, you can still talk about different life stories." This appreciation for diverse perspectives is woven into the fabric of the club.
At one of Noni's first meals at the Club, she found herself seated among consulate wives from around the world. These accomplished women, who could have chosen any number of prestigious clubs, had made the Metropolitan Club their home. For Noni, this spoke volumes about the club's ability to bring women together transcending age, background, and culture. "It feels very special to be a part of that."
The Metropolitan Club's tradition of welcome isn't just received–it's shared. When Noni joined the membership committee, she embraced the role in her continuing story.
"From being a stranger when I first walked in to now being able to say that I could potentially be a leader for the incoming generations–that's such a beautiful pipeline."
Her daily presence at the club, from morning workouts to evening events, has served a larger purpose. "A lot of women call it their home away from home," she shares, "It quite literally is."
Every corner of the Metropolitan Club tells a story, ranging from lectures featuring scientists and dermatologists to social gatherings that spark new friendships. "There's something for everyone," Noni emphasizes, "and that's the most special part about the club."
Here, every story finds its home.
"No matter your background, your age, your demographic–there is something there for you and you will find your community," Noni shares. In a city known for its transient nature, the club offers a rare opportunity: the chance to plant deep roots.
Noni discovered in this “hidden gem” that every woman can write her own chapter in an ongoing story. Looking back on her time in San Francisco, she reflects with certainty: "It was the best decision I ever made."
